Computer Vision for Active and Assisted Living

چکیده
The field of computer vision has been growing steadily and attracting the interest of both researchers and the industry. Especially in the last decade, enormous advances have been made with regard to automated and reliable recognition of image or video content, such as face, object and motion recognition [1–3] and gesture and activity recognition [4, 5]. Additionally, recent advances in 3D scene acquisition, such as the Microsoft Kinect depth sensor, represent a huge leap forward, enabling 3D modelling and body pose estimation in real time with low cost and mostly simple setup solutions. Such advances are very relevant to the field of active and assisted living (AAL). Traditionally binary sensors have been employed to provide the infrastructure of a smart home upon which services can then be provided to assist people and provide comfort, safety and eHealth services, among others. However, binary sensors reach their limits when complex scenarios have to be taken into account that require a broader knowledge of what is happening and what a person is doing. One or more visual sensors can provide very detailed information about the state of the environment and its inhabitants when combined with the aforementioned pattern

Computer assisted instruction during quarantine and computer vision syndrome
Computer vision syndrome (CVS) is a set of visual, ocular, and musculoskeletal symptoms that result from long-term computer use. These symptoms include eyestrain, dry eyes, burning, pain, redness, blurred vision, etc, which increase with the duration of computer use. Currently, with the closure of schools and universities due to the continued COVID19 pandemic many universities have taken the pr...
متن کاملExperimental Evaluation of Keypoints Detector and Descriptor Algorithms for Indoors Person Localization
This paper presents an experimental evaluation of the accuracy and runtime of several combinations of algorithms for keypoints detection and description. The algorithms are used to localize a person in a room as the first step of a computer vision based fall detection system, part of an Ambient assisted living (AAL) solution.

Due to demographic reasons, the percentage of elderly population in developed countries is rapidly increasing, thus leading to much bigger demand of alternative caring solutions such as Ambient Assisted Living (AAL). This paper presents the recent research trends in AAL, as well as the main challenges to its development. The paper focuses on two significant fields in AAL – computer vision and W...
متن کاملRobot Motion Vision Part II: Implementation
The idea of Fixation introduced a direct method for general recovery of shape and motion from images without using either feature correspondence or optical flow [1,2]. There are some parameters which have important effects on the performance of fixation method. However, the theory of fixation does not say anything about the autonomous and correct choice of those parameters. This paper presents ...
متن کاملRobot Motion Vision Pait I: Theory
A direct method called fixation is introduced for solving the general motion vision problem, arbitrary motion relative to an arbitrary environment. This method results in a linear constraint equation which explicitly expresses the rotational velocity in terms of the translational velocity. The combination of this constraint equation with the Brightness-Change Constraint Equation solves the gene...
